Frequently asked questions about outdoor woodwork

What does decking on a balcony or roof terrace cost?
It depends on the surface area, the type of wood and whether the old floor has to come out. We always visit first and then give you a fixed price on paper, including removing and disposing of the old decking. No extra charges afterwards.
Do you also remove the old decking or balcony railing?
Yes, demolition and disposal are included in the quote as standard. In the city centre that is often the hardest part of the job: there is nowhere to put it and no loading space outside. We take care of it, so you are not carrying anything down the stairs.
Hardwood or composite?
Both, and the choice depends on what you want. Hardwood ages beautifully and you keep it up with oil; that is what we use for balcony railings and balustrades, cut to size in our own workshop. Composite needs no maintenance and keeps its colour, which often wins on a roof terrace or a garden you would rather not have to look after. For fences, sheds and canopies we work with douglas fir or treated softwood. We discuss it when we measure up and put both prices in the quote if you are undecided.
Do you lay the decking on adjustable pedestals?
Yes. The joists sit on adjustable pedestals so the floor is level, water can drain underneath and the drain stays accessible. We never lay boards straight onto tiles: that traps water and the wood is finished within a few years.
Do you also do the paving in the same garden?
Yes. In a city garden the decking and the paving often go together. Mention it in the notes field of the form and we will include it in the same quote.

Yes, we are a registered company (KVK: 99333074) and fully insured with business liability and CAR insurance. You run absolutely no financial risk during the work.
